Equations Work - A technology company where work and passion combine.

Posted by: Anita Gupte

You know you are pursuing a fantastic career when you come across a company that goes off the beaten track for almost every challenge and opportunity. I knew my decision to join Equations Work as the Vice President - Delivery was absolutely spot on the moment I stepped on board. The highlight of my journey was the day I received a handwritten letter for the flawless delivery carried out by the entire team. I knew that very moment, I had stepped into a firm that thinks differently, and works towards a common goal.
A day at Equations Work begins in the company of computer geeks. Yes, we love to use this term as this information technology company thrives on the sheer genius of very young and able talents. And Mondays are a whole different scenario here. Doesn’t everyone drag their heels to work on Mondays? No, it’s not #MundaneMondays here. Quite contrary, it’s quite a happy setup when Mondays begin on an inspirational note.
Why? You may wonder. Well, that’s because everyone is passionate about their career at Equations Work.
It’s amazing when you step into the office and you are greeted automatically by a Television screen displayed prominently at the lobby area. The mobile phone automatically checks you in and erases the need to manually swipe your card every time you enter the office. While you may casually stroll through the workstations, don’t be misled into thinking team members are ‘playing around’ on their Macintosh. These intelligent minds are in the process of discovering new ideas, creating apps and more, during their work hours.
The floor at Equations Work is a hub of creativity and innovation almost every single moment of the day. The energy levels are high particularly with the number of activities that are encouraged within the company. A week ago, I witnessed a couple of subordinates around a cycle. They were working on a wearable, speed and cadence sensor. While one was exploring this angle, another was experimenting with a high-end camera. This camera was hooked on to the cycle. The images were projected onto the TV screen placed in our lobby area. The whole scenario excited me further about the limitless scope of these young minds. Oh, and did I forget to mention that this was nothing to do with a client brief! It was an activity spearheaded by the CEO and CTO.
I must make a special mention about the ‘Smart Board’ creation by the geeks here. Imagine creating a board that can project the images of one’s footprints when aimed towards the floor? Sounds like a scene quite reminiscent to those shown in major detective series.
What if your colleagues experiment and come up with many such new ideas every day? It’s not always about work here. One can participate in the Comic Corner and thumb through pages of comic books and go through souvenirs of the Star War series.
We totally encourage team spirit hence we reinvented some old games. The innovative Digital Dumb Charades is quite a smashing hit here. Yes, you read it right. Dumb Charades taken on a whole new level altogether! What caught my attention was the concept of ‘Internal Hackathons’. This challenges the thinking levels of participants and we’ve had astounding results. Imagine a company wherein an App can be built overnight? Now, that’s the kind of brilliant execution that happens at Equations Work.
Don’t be fooled into thinking the team that sometimes dresses up in a cape or wears a crown on their heads is just whiling away their time. They certainly know how to knot their tie and change their demeanor within seconds for a client call.
As the Vice President of Equations Work, I am constantly motivated with the innovative minds that add a whole new dimension to my work profile. I can safely say, I’ve finally begun on a career that takes an unpredictable and innovative path. Certainly, there’s a fine mix of work and play only at Equations Work.
